Note: The timeline on this page may be confusing, partially incorrect, and is uncertain. Due to multiple factors, including the deletion of the original coiner's blog, a lack of dates from some of its sources, and other minor issues, it's difficult to put exact dates and order to some of these events. The uncertainty of this article and the situation itself may also lead to some disagreeing with which flags and definitions we are referring to as the original or official ones. While we feel there is a strong case for our own categorization, other interpretations are also entirely valid and substantiated. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We have also avoided referring to any of the definitions as redefinitions, and instead chose to use the phrase "alternate definition" or "alternately defined" due to the likelihood that all of the individuals who defined the were were unaware of each other's definitions for one reason or another. It is still included in the list of redefined terms for simplicity's sake. For similar reasons, we've also opted to use the phrasing "alternate/alternative flags"

Name(s) and Definition(s)

Genderera is a Neogender and umbrella term defined as "an umbrella term for all female-adjacent, female-aligned, and female-identified genders. Examples would be girl, trans woman, transfem, demigirl, girlflux, nonbinary woman, nixera, juxera, agender girl, nanogirl, etc.
The genderera label has many related neolabels underneath it including agenderera, eraflux, eravoid, neutroera, demiera, and even newly created alignment systems. Genderera is an adjective, so you would say that someone is genderera, or that they are a genderera person.
This label can also be used on its own, much like the term nonbinary.
Someone who has multiple genderera identities would be considered polyera. The male-related equivalent would be called gendervir."1

It was alternately defined as "an umbrella term for all female-adjacent, female-aligned, and female-identified genders. can be both an umbrella term and a personal identity."2

History

Coining History

Genderera was first coined through a post that somewhat implied its existence. This post, made on July 11, 2020, by now-deleted Tumblr user The-Gender-Collector-Emself, consisted of female terms to some of eir earlier Gendervir terms, all of them prefixed or suffixed with era. This naming convention also mirrored their Gendervir counterparts. The term was neither named nor defined on that date.3

The term was defined by Tumblr user Your-Bigender-Big-Brother, the coiner on a new account, and posted on July 22, 2022.4 While the definition was posted two years later, the first paragraph's similarity to Gendervir makes it likely that the definition was always the one in use by the coiner and was posted far after it being written and solidified in eir mind.

The earliest available usage of the alternate definition is from January 19, 2021, in an ask sent by an anonymous individual via Tumblr blog Amerafluid.5 While the definition was likely not written by said anonymous individual, primarily due to it also being found in a separate post by Tumblr user Neopronouns made three month later that did not acknowledge this instance, the phrasing used cannot be found in any post made before said ask was published.

Flag and Symbol History

The flags were made by Tumblr user Your-Bigender-Big-Brother and posted on July 22, 2022.6 While the flags were posted after two alternate ones were made, they were likely created first for multiple reasons. First, they were created y the coiner. Second, a few of the first flag's stripes directly match the colors used in the first set of Genderera terms ever posted. Third, the second flag matches the original Gendervir flag, which was redesigned by the coiner before this flag was posted.

The first alternate flag was made by Tumblr user Amerafluid on January 19, 2021.7

The second alternate flag was made by Tumblr user Neopronouns on April 30, 2021.8

As of April 5, 2023, Genderera doesn't have a symbol.
