Flag Meaning: Unknown or nonexistent

Name(s) and Definition(s)

-coric is an Aesthetigender suffix defined as "a xenogender related to some sort of “core”. "1

It was redefined a third time as "a gender identity relating to or described as using an aesthetic or -core (example lovecore, glitchcore, ect.) Can be standalone or used alongside other identities"2

It was redefined as "suffix used to create new genders centered around "core" aesthetics. For example, a gender centered around cottagecore would be cottagecoric. These genders are inherently aesthetigenders and many are xenine in nature.
Coric genders can only be created if a "core" for that concept exists."3

It was redefined again as "a suffix that refers to aesthetic genders based around established "core" aesthetics."4

Specification on Use

On May 1, 2019, three anons sent to the Tumblr blog Beyond-MOGAI-Pride-Flags, the coiner of -coric specified that it is only to be used for genders related to established -core aesthetics, not nonexistent ones or non-aesthetic things, saying "Hi hi!! Person who coined Coric here! Uh really sorry to have send these asks to you, but I figured it would be the best place since I submitted the terms here. I wanted to clear some things up about Coric genders since I have been seeing a lot of misinformation being spread around and it is bugging the absolute shite out of me!! So 1- there is no Coric if there is no "core"! I think this would be pretty obvious but its okay if you were misinformed! So lets say that your gender is related (1/?)

to…lets say tires. So your gender could be Tirecoric right? Bzzt! Nope! If you look up “tirecore” you get nothing, so Tirecoric can’t be a thing! At least not until tirecore is a thing, but until then Tirecoric can’t exist. So you would use Tiregender or sumthin instead. Ok so onto 2- anyone can identify as a Coric gender! They arent neurogenders or anything, they’re more like aesthetic genders. The only requirement for identifying as a Coric gender is saying you do. Thats it! (2/?)

Sorry again for sending you all these asks but its been really bugging me seeing people hand out rules for genders that I coined lmao. So uh yah hopefully that clears things up. I am really glad its caught on though! The more Coric people the better!! (3/3)"12

Misuse

For some reason, -coric is commonly misused within the MOGAI community. One of the earliest examples of this is Cosmiccoric, which was coined on April 28, 2019, only two months after -coric being coined. It's unknown where the misconception about what -coric is supposed to be used for came from, nor why it exists at all.

While it is impossible to completely pin down where the misunderstanding of -coric's definition came from as there are no posts that could've spread it from between when -coric and Cosmiccoric were coined, there is at least one theory as to how it spread.

This theory comes from a comment the now deleted LGBTA Wiki user Jason Todd is a Twunk on that Wiki's page for the Colorwheel System that both corrected misinformation about -coric and made a guess as to where it came from. This comment reads "I get the feeling that whoever made this page and did the tags has no idea what coric means. It's not a type of gender like xenogender, it's a suffix and one for genders related to core aesthetics. Not only does it not apply because none of these genders use the suffix, but because none of them are related to cores. I think I'm starting to understand where the misunderstanding about what coric actually is comes from."13

This likely comes from the Wiki treating -coric more as an umbrella term/kind of gender - mostly applied to Aesthetigenders - , rather than a suffix and one with a specific use. This can be seen even in the August 20 revisions of the page, which read "Xenine identities may be considered coric, noungenders or aesthetigenders related to the color wheel."14 even though none of the terms use -coric, nor do they fit the definition of being -core related.

Though the misuse of -coric on the LGBTA Wiki cannot be blamed on the Wiki, given that it predates the use on the Wiki, the incorrect use of the suffix mixed with the Wiki's large user base definitely exacerbated it.
